Pre-Genetic Counseling Internship Program

We are not currently Accepting applications for our program until mid-2024;
Please review eligibility requirements

Our goal over the spring of 2024 will be to improve the structure and onboarding process for our pre-genetic counseling internship program for future cohorts. This means we will not be conducting interviews for new interns until May 2024 at the earliest and will not be accepting applications until closer to the positions becoming available.

Clover Genetics not only seeks to improve access to genetic counseling through unique service delivery but also to provide education and resources to genetics professionals and patients within our community. The success of the genetics industry requires far more than the availability of genetic counselors.

We believe that creating a strong team requires diverse skill sets to tackle various projects that will enhance the care that we provide, as well as prepare future generations of genetic counselors for the responsibility of providing holistic clinical care.

Our interns gain exposure to the workflows of a telehealth genetic counseling practice operating remotely across the United States and its territories. Regardless of their roles, those who have completed our background check requirements receive opportunities to shadow and provide supportive assistance during clinical appointments with patients across a variety of specialties. We offer support for interns working to improve their skills in writing, visual presentation, public speaking, organization, and other aspects important to success in graduate school.

Pre-Genetic Counseling Program Internship Roles

Genetic Counseling Assistant: Our genetic counselors depend on the various tasks of our GCAs within the realm of clinical and insurance operations. They facilitate registration, intake, insurance evaluations, payment, family history completion, and various behind-the-scenes support for both patients and providers. The GCA role also incorporates many aspects of genomics education through projects, presentations, social media initiatives, and more. Their efforts to improve our workflows aids our expansion of accessible genetic counseling services. Our GCA Interns learn the workflow of a telehealth genetics practice and engage in the process from the initial patient inquiry through the end of the consultation, and beyond– spanning care coordination, follow-up, and resource identification.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Case management

  • Patient and provider contact and care coordination

  • Record keeping, workflow adherence

  • Handling PHI and payment information

  • Pre-screening, pedigree creation, results follow-ups

Genomics Advocacy Interns: Our Genomics Advocates promote health awareness through research on resources, services, and supports available for the community followed by projects to share their findings.

Project completion often includes collaborating with peers, leadership, or the community to present heavily researched content that may be published on our website, social media, or shared as a resource for patients, providers, or families. These interns gain deeply constructive feedback on their writing, grammar, and approach to breaking down challenging scientific information.

These interns have the flexibility to work on their projects on their own time, with fewer expectations to go beyond their hourly commitments and project deadlines, which allows them to juggle a fuller schedule.
